What Houston asks of a new interceptor

For building permits applied for after August 31, 2006, restaurants, bars, hotels, hospitals, schools and other businesses that produce grease must have an interceptor that complies with the City of Houston Plumbing Code, plus a sample well the city can use to inspect and take samples.

Does a new trap need a sample well?

Yes. Houston’s code requires a sample well alongside the interceptor, so the city can inspect and sample it.

My site has two interceptors. One registration or two?

Two. Houston asks for a separate application for each interceptor.

Should I replace a trap that failed inspection?

Not before it’s looked at. If it failed because of holes, cracks or a broken baffle wall, that damage can be repaired overnight.
